MORENDO
( mo · REN · doh )
SHAPES THE WAY A NOTE DIES INTO SILENCE
A reverb that sculpts not the space, but the way a note dies away.

IThe Idea
Morendo is the score's instruction to let a sound die; dying away, fading to nothing. Where most reverbs sell you a room, Morendo sells you the ending: the slow exhale after the note, and every way it can vanish. Decay stretches the tail toward the infinite; Bloom reverses it, swelling the wash in backwards after the pick. With RESPONSE the reverb starts listening to your hands; ducking out of the way when you dig in, or surging toward runaway when you hit hard. Hold the whole wash forever with FREEZE and play over your own disappearing act.
IIThe Controls
- DECAY
- Tail length; from a tight room up to a near-infinite ambient wash.
- DAMP
- How fast the highs fade as the tail decays. Up = darker, warmer.
- BLOOM
- Reverse-swell time. 0 = reverb is immediate; up = each note's wash fades in slowly after you play.
- DIFFUSE
- Texture; sparse and grainy at the low end, smooth and lush at the high end.
- TONE
- Overall brightness of the wet. Up = darker tail.
- MIX
- How much reverb you hear. This is the amount/intensity control.
IIISwitches & Footswitches
- RESPONSE (3-way)
- How dynamics shape the reverb. OFF = static. DUCK = dig in and the wash gets out of the way, soft playing blooms. SURGE = pick strength scales the swell and kicks feedback toward runaway.
- FREEZE (footswitch)
- Holds the current wash indefinitely so you can play clean over it. Latching.
- BYPASS (footswitch)
- True dry passthrough.
