HEMIOLA

( heh · mee · OH · lah )
TWO PULSES, ONE HANDED TO THE NEXT
A two-voice delay where every repeat can spawn its own echoes; interlocked, cascaded, or scattered free.
CAESURA  ·  v0.4.1  ·  Hemi

IThe Idea

A hemiola is the rhythmic illusion of two pulses overlaid; three felt against two; the moment a groove tips and reorganizes itself. This delay lives in that tension. A main repeat and a follower voice trade the beat back and forth, and MODE decides the geometry: WEAVE interlocks them on one line; CASCADE turns the follower into a delay on the delay, so every repeat sprouts its own sub-echoes; RND on the RATIO knob cuts the follower loose from the grid entirely, scattering it in free time. The signature UNDERTOW knob is the hand-off itself: it fades the main repeat early so the follower lingers and carries on, like a wave pulling back as the next one rises. Flick OCT and the follower answers an octave above or below; two voices you can always tell apart.

IIThe Controls

TIME
Main delay time. With SYNC on, it locks to a host note division.
RATIO
Snaps the follower to a musical ratio of the main; dotted-8th, triplet, half; or RND at the top: free random timing, no rules.
UNDERTOW
The hand-off. 0 = single delay; mid = interlocking groove; max = the follower becomes a sustaining wash.
FEEDBACK
How many repeats. The loop is sum-limited just below runaway, so every tail ends.
FILTER
Tone of the repeats; darker below noon, brighter above.
MIX
Wet amount over your dry signal.

IIISwitches & Footswitches

MODE (3-way)
SINGLE = one clean delay · WEAVE = the parallel interlock · CASCADE = the follower delays each repeat (a delay on the delay).
PACE (3-way)
Follower speed against the main: HALF, WITH, or DOUBLE.
OCT (3-way)
Follower pitch: DOWN an octave, OFF, or UP an octave. Only the follower; the main repeat always sounds like you.
SYNC (toggle)
TIME locks to a host tempo division (1/16 up to 1/1).
BYPASS (footswitch)
True dry passthrough.

CASCADE · RATIO triplet, SYNC on
Every quarter-note repeat sprouts triplet sub-echoes.
Scatter
CASCADE · RATIO at RND
Each repeat sprays sub-echoes in free time; dot ... dot dot dot.
Tidal Wash
WEAVE · UNDERTOW max, FEEDBACK high
The follower dissolves into a sustaining tide.
